Making a difference in sustainable forest management

The challenges of sustainable forest management focus on achieving social, economic and environmental goals, which are sometimes incompatible. While retaining the productive capacity of forests, a sustainable income needs to be provided to local communities. In addition, the objectives of ecological sustainability are usually expressed in terms of maintaining forest cover and biodiversity. Thus, productive capacity, economy and ecological biodiversity need to be kept in a harmonic balance that is not always easy to achieve.

Guided by Millennium Development Goals, significant reforms in the Cambodian forestry sector have laid the foundation for sustainable forest management, contributing to socio-economic development, environmental protection and poverty reduction.

At ATC, we were part of these impressive initiatives by implementing a project with the objective to support the Forestry Administration of the Royal Government of Cambodia with the future implementation of the National Forest Programme. Amongst others we contributed to assessing the baseline indicators for the programme against which the project results will be monitored.

However, much more needs to be done. We are open to implement new initiatives that can make a change for the environment and sustainable economies. We want to make more ideas happen. Find here more information about the Cambodia Millennium Development Goals.
