A visit to the land of the Rose

Kazanlak is a beautiful city located in the valley of roses and Thracian kings in the center of Bulgaria. Natural wonders and impressive cultural heritage sites make Kazanlak a very attractive touristic destination. In our last visit to the region, we got not only the best impression of the places, but also of the people’s warmth and hospitality. The region’s tourism potential is remarkable; it is based on the historical importance of its heritage as well as the production of rose oil and water. Roses, particularly the Rosa Damascena, are one of Bulgaria’s symbols and an important industrial crop.

During our visit, we were very impressed by all Thracian treasures: the Iskra Historical Museum, which houses an impressive collection of artifacts and offers a detailed guide of the largest and best-preserved Thracian tombs, Ostrusha, Kosmatka the Great, Arsenalka the Great, The Gryphons, Helvetia, Shushmanets, and Svetitsata. The Museum of Roses is an interesting place to get involved in the history of rose cultivation, processing and final products. Not far from there, tourists can even make their own rose water and try food and drinks made from roses. It is a unique experience.

One of the most interesting destinations of our visit was the Literary and Art Museum of "Chudomir", house of Dimitar Chorbadzhiiski (1890-1967), who was an important Bulgarian artist, writer and activist. More than 15,000 of his original manuscripts, paintings, sketches, letters and books can be appreciated in a very pleasant and enjoyable atmosphere.

Kazanlak offers several touristic options and ideas for new developments in the future. We want to thank our local counterparts for making our visit unforgettable. We look forward to working for tourism development in this region and to making more ideas there happen.
